Confederation Centre to Host Three-Day Founders Week Open House

August 26, 2014

Doors open September 4th to 6th for building tours, workshops, outdoor market and more!

(Charlottetown, P.E.I.) - On September 4, 5, and 6 Confederation Centre of the Arts will throw open its backrooms, backstage, hallways, archives, and cubbies to share 50 years of Canadian history with the public. An official part of Founders Week, held on P.E.I. from August 28 to 7, the Confederation Centre Open House is sponsored by PEI 2014 Inc.

"For many Canadians of all ages, the Centre has created a treasure trove of memories," says Jessie Inman, CEO. "As a part of our anniversary celebrations we invite Islanders and visitors alike to come explore our national memorial to the founding of the country. This is a rare chance to see behind-the-scenes of a special place where so much magic comes to life in the celebration of both Canada's heritage and the visual and performing arts."

The entire complex will be involved as staff, cast, volunteers, and alumni share the mysteries of how exhibitions are curated, how props are constructed, how signature dishes are created at Mavor's restaurant, and so much more. Historic walking tours from the Confederation Players, tours of the newly re-opened theatre, and guided gallery tours will be available at set times. Guests can also sign up for dancing lessons in the studio, cooking demonstrations, croquet and improvisation lessons from the Players, and jewelry and wood-working workshops at The Showcase gift shop.

On Saturday September 6, an outdoor market will take root on the Centre's upper plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring Truly African Designs, The Honey Cart, Stars for Life, and other local vendors. A special Late Night at The Mack variety show will close out this festive three-day gathering, bringing the crowd to their feet Saturday night at 10 p.m. Attendance for Late Night is first-come, first-served.
